Lithuania and Vietnam Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Energy
Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas is on a working visit to Hanoi, Vietnam, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Lithuania and Vietnam has been signed today, 12 June.
The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy, with a particular focus on liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure and its development. The objectives of the MoU include the exchange of knowledge, experience and best practices in the development and operation of floating LNG terminals, the LNG supply chain, as well as the promotion of joint initiatives, projects and economic relations related to the energy sector.
“Lithuania, with its strong LNG infrastructure operated by KN Energies and its extensive experience, is ready to cooperate and share knowledge with partners who are seeking to transition to cleaner energy sources. Vietnam is looking for solutions to meet its growing energy needs, and LNG is becoming the basis for mutually beneficial cooperation,” Energy Minister Vaičiūnas noted.
Mr Vaičiūnas has also participated in the Lithuanian-Vietnamese Business Forum in Hanoi, where he took part in a panel discussion on renewable energy sources and green transformation.
During his visit, the Minister will also meet with Phan Thi Thang, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, responsible for energy, as well as representatives of energy companies. During the meetings, Minister Vaičiūnas will present the opportunities for cooperation between Lithuania and Vietnam in strengthening the security of energy supply and exchange of information on the LNG sector.
Together with the Minister of Energy, Mr Darius Šilenskis, Director General of the international energy terminal operator KN Energies AB, is also visiting Hanoi. The company is actively interested in the promising Vietnamese market and is looking for opportunities to expand its activities in the field of LNG terminal management.
