Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas congratulates the new Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal

Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas extended his congratulations to Denys Shmyhal, the newly appointed Minister of Energy of Ukraine, and expressed his support as Mr Shmyhal takes the helm of the energy sector in extremely challenging and unprecedented circumstances.
During a telephone conversation with the new minister, Mr Vaičiūnas emphasised that Lithuania will never tire of helping the people of Ukraine – it will continue to back Ukraine’s struggle for freedom and a secure future, and will remain committed to supporting Ukraine’s energy sector. The details of urgent assistance for this sector, as well as Lithuania’s immediate next steps, were also discussed.
“Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is enduring relentless attacks by russia during the cold winter months, so the country needs urgent assistance now more than ever before. Lithuania will continue to provide both immediate and long‑term support, including the supply of equipment for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure,” said Minister Vaičiūnas.
The minister also confirmed that the Independence – Lithuania’s floating LNG storage and regasification unit operated by AB KN Energies in the Port of Klaipėda – is ready to continue providing services that help Ukraine diversify its gas supply.
