Today, Minister of Energy Dainius Kreivys met with Latvian Minister of Economics Ilze Indriksone. They discussed the energy security situation in the region and how to accelerate the synchronisation of the Baltic States with continental European grids.

“We should highlight the importance of speeding up synchronisation and the unity of the Baltic States on this issue in the current geopolitical and security context. Baltic unity, political support and technical preparation are crucial at this time. We need to ensure that both our institutions and transmission system operators actively assess and develop plans to accelerate synchronisation,” emphasised Minister of Energy Mr Kreivys.

The development of renewable energy sources was also discussed at the meeting.

“The rapid development of green energy is crucial not only as a prerequisite for full energy independence, but also as the only sustainable way to reduce electricity and heating bills,” said the minister.

Almost EUR 1 billion is planned to be spent on green energy development and energy efficiency in Lithuania by 2030. The legislative packages are expected to contribute to the successful implementation of investments in green energy projects.

The ministers also discussed the issues related to preparation for the upcoming winter season – both countries have already taken steps to prepare for it properly.
