A meeting of the Ignalina Programme Monitoring Committee was held at the Ministry of Energy to discuss the progress of the Ignalina NPP decommissioning projects. The committee is co-chaired by European Commission Directorate-General for Energy Massimo Garribba and Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Energy Albinas Zananavičius. Progress was noted during the meeting, although much remains to be done before the end of the project, so it is important to ensure a sufficient pace of work. One of the biggest challenges now is the dismantling of the reactor core.

Decommissioning of the Ignalina NPP is planned to be completed in 2038. Funds for the decommissioning of the Ignalina Programme are administered by the Central Project Management Agency and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
