Baltic energy ministers call on the EU to start the Ukrainian synchronisation process as soon as possible
Baltic ministers have signed a joint statement on implementation of a coordinated action plan to ensure energy independence from Russia. The ministers are also calling on the European Union (EU) to start the process of integrating Ukraine’s power system into the power system of continental Europe as soon as possible.
In the statement, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania Dainius Kreivys, Minister of Economics of the Republic of Latvia Jānis Vitenbergs and Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure of the Republic of Estonia Taavi Aas strongly condemn Russia’s ongoing military attack on Ukraine.
As the ministers note, energy is one of the most important elements in the overall security architecture of the European continent, and under these unprecedented circumstances, it has become even more important than ever. As per the joint statement of the Baltic ministers responsible for energy, the Baltic States have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to cooperate in a variety of situations, so now too, it is important to remain united and take targeted action. The statement also points out that a common and coordinated approach is needed to ensure our energy independence today and in the future. The ministers agree that in view of the current geopolitical situation, priority must be given to completing synchronisation of the Baltic power systems with continental Europe as soon as possible.
