Baltic States

  • On 6 October 2019 the Inaugural high-level U.S. - Baltic energy dialogue meeting took place in Vilnius (Lithuania). The ministers of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania responsible for energy and the US Secretary of Energy discussed how to make the most of opportunities offered by this partnership in strategic energy projects’ implementation, and how to deal with geopolitical regional energy security challenges. The ministers of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the US Secretary of Energy signed Joint Declaration on the establishment and further implementation of a high-level ministerial dialogue on energy under the Initiative of the Partnership for Transatlantic energy cooperation. It was agreed to continue cooperation within the agreed areas of interest.

United States

  • On 13-15 March 2019 the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas participated in the first ministerial forum for transatlantic energy cooperation which took place in Houston (USA). The objective of the forum, which was held on the initiative of the US Energy Secretary Rick Perry, is to increase support of the US government and private companies for energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • On 7 October 2019 the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas participated in the second ministerial forum for transatlantic energy cooperation which took place in Vilnius (Lithuania). The second meeting of the partnership for transatlantic energy cooperation was devoted to energy security challenges faced in the region and specific measures to strengthen involvement of the US government and private sector in dealing with energy security challenges of the regions, possibilities to improve the existing investment environment and to attract new investors to Central and Eastern Europe. Lithuania was a hosting country of the second ministerial forum.

Japan

  • On 18 September 2019 the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas met with Tadashi Maeda, Governor of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and members of the delegation. The meeting discussed the prospects of Lithuanian-Japanese energy cooperation and investment opportunities in the energy sector.
  • On 23-24 October 2019 the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas was with a visit to Tokyo (Japan). During the visit in the presence of President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Isshu Sugawara signed a cooperation agreement which gives the basis for practical cooperation in such areas as decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear power plants, renewable energy (solar, wind and biomass), energy saving, storage and storage technology projects, liquefied natural gas. During his visit to Japan the Minister of Energy also participated in the side events of the Lithuanian – Japanese Business Forum and had meetings with representatives of the major Japanese energy companies.
  • On 19 November 2019 the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas hosted a meeting in Vilnius (Lithuania) with representatives from the Keidanren Japan Business Federation, which unites over 1,600 Japanese industrial companies. During the meeting, Lithuania’s strategic energy projects were presented, and opportunities for cooperation with Japan in their implementation were discussed.
