Lithuanian Energy Minister: Klaipėda LNG terminal may supply Ukraine with gas
Lithuania is willing to share its experience with Ukraine in seeking energy independence. Lithuania may even supply Ukraine with gas from the LNG terminal in Klaipėda in 2018, as Lithuanian Minister of Energy Rokas Masiulis stated at a meeting of the Council of Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine.
The 7th meeting of the Council of Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine held today, November 24, in Kiev was co-chaired by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The meeting discussed what measures Lithuania could take to help Ukraine to carry out major reforms and ensure its own security and that of the whole region.
We have already provided Ukraine with all translated legal documents and technical specifications related to the construction an LNG terminal. We can also help Ukraine to build an LNG terminal. As Lithuania is going to build a gas pipeline with Poland, we could supply Ukraine with gas through Poland," said Lithuanian Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis.
In his words, it would be possible to supply Ukraine with gas from the Klaipėda LNG terminal in 2018.
Lithuania is also ready to provide support for Ukraine in defending its interests against monopolies, help it to use renewable energy resources more efficiently and boost its energy efficiency.
"Energy independence can only be achieved through political perseverance (in a positive sense), going forward and not looking back," pointed out Mr Masiulis.
